Punk Rock 5 Most Outrageous Moments In History

Punk Rock Has Had A Long History Of Crazy Moments Here Are The Top 5

Written By: Sid Jones

Punk rock is in my blood. And it will always be one of the things that defines me. Outside of hip hop, it is my favorite genre of music. In fact, I have a UGH 65 card with me as Sid Vicious. However, he is not on this list, so consider this an honorable mention. Sid is in my name, because of this man and his most outrageous moment was back in 1977. When he was on the U.S tour and took beer cans and bottles to the face. And he continued to perform.

Here is a picture of Sid Vicious

And here is my UGH 65 card

With that out of the way, let’s get into the 5 most outrageous moments in punk rock history.

Terminal 5 Incident

I love the Dropkick Murphys. In fact, I have a history of performing with them on stage. Skinhead on the MBTA, Until Next Time, and, alcohol. The Boston punk rock band has a history of great moments and this is one of them. On March 13th, 2013 the Irish punk rock band played at Terminal 5 in New York City. I love that venue.

On this night, fans stormed the stage and remained for an encore song. A very dumb individual gave a Nazi salute. And Ken Casey, not only punched the man and tried to choke him out. But he struck him with his bass guitar before shouting into the microphone, “Nazis are not allowed at a Dropkick Murphys show.”

If you want to see the incident for yourself, fast forward the video to the 1:15 mark. You won’t regret it.

Mike Ness Punches Trump Supporter

Okay, so here’s a bit of advice. When you go to a punk rock show, don’t be stupid. And when I say that, I mean don’t shout your political views. Outside, you may be protected by fellow supporters and safe spaces. But under the roof of punk, it’s no holds barred. However, it’s not always violent. Just most of the time.

Let’s look at the case of a Trump supporter who decided to shout about his love for Trump at Mike Ness. Lead singer of Social Distortion and a very big dude. So, don’t piss off a big dude? Seems like common sense but as far as I can tell, Trump supporters lack in that department. This is simply my opinion and if you don’t like it, feel free to write your own top 5. I implore you to do so.

So, as you can imagine this did not go over well with Fox News, Trump supporters and white supremacists. Mike Ness jumped off the stage and assaulted the Trump supporter. It made headlines from the New York Times, to your local news paper. It was sheer brilliant and a breath of fresh air to the modern day era of punk rock.

The Dickies Verbal Assault At Warped Tour

This moment is one of the greatest in music history. For those of you too young to know, Warped Tour use to be a real punk rock tour. It has a history of great performances from the Briggs, Circle Jerks, Dropkick Murphys, Against All Authority, and of course the Dickies!

Now, the Dickies have a long career with many highlights. They put on a great show, have some fun and play with giant penis puppet. At Warped Tour 2017, this offended a woman in the crowd. I will never forget that morning when I discovered the news and the video. In the era of Broadside (a band and fanbase I hope one day disappear from existence) and poppy punk garbage. This number three spot brought me hope. In the shape of an offended woman.

A woman shouted about how sexist the band was, or some special privilege banter. And then, the most beautiful thing happened. The lead singer comes back and says, “I’ve f*cked farm animals that are prettier than you.” And it gets better from there.

Johnny Rotten VS Rock N Roll HOF

I have a senior thesis which refers to this moment. Again, punk rock is in my blood and I miss the essence of it. In 2006, the Sex Pistols declined to be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. If you want to know why, well it’s explained in a beautiful letter that you can google. That, or you can listen to Jann Wenner read the letter aloud at the ceremony.

The Existence Of GG Allin

Born in the beautiful state of New Hampshire, not far from where I was born and raised. Was, a man that lived an incredible, yet short life. As you could have probably guessed, him and I have a lot in common. I mean, just look at us, the resemblance is undeniable. Now, for those of you that have never heard of GG Allin, there are hundreds of hours of footage for you to watch.

GG has performed in white underwear, threw fecal matter into the crowd, and sliced up his own flesh. Part of that being for his own enjoyment. And not to mention, his reputation. Unfortunately, this punk rock legend passed away on June 28th, 1993. His legacy lives on forever and just to give you an idea of how well this man’s life was documented, here’s a video from “The Final Hellride.” Yes, his funeral.

I hate leaving the readers with a sad story. But such as life. What did you think of the list? Let us know in the comments below, or let me know on twitter @mtswordfish.
