Alkaline Trio New Album Dissapoints Fans

Alkaline Trio New Album Disappoints Long Time Fans

Written By: FlipSyde

Alkaline Trio is one of my favorite bands of all time, in any genre. I was introduced to them by my great friend, Adam. One night in his garage he played a couple songs. I believe he started off with radio which has a catchy enough chorus. It’s one that can be interpreted different ways by its listeners. So much so, it’s in my top 10 songs of all time. They have a vast career. Their lead bassist is now with Blink 182. Their lead singer Matt Skiba has multiple side projects.

Matt is a true genius when it comes to giving off apathetic tones of love, dismay and torturing himself by being a hopeless romantic. I highly encourage you to look up songs, Radio, Private Eye, She Lied to the FBI, and Help Me. I have never gone to a concert of theirs. I have a lot of social anxiety I deal with to go to a concert on a frequent basis. I do however have all their cds in one form or another. So this was a highly anticipated album to listen to.

Initial Reaction

The new Alkaline Trio CD, Is This Thing Cursed? Is not the nostalgic punk feel we were hoping for. The Sound that made us love Alkaline Trio in the first place. Like their early entries Good Mourning and Goddammit. They’re sounding more and more pop like A day To Remember than they are Alkaline Trio. I get that music evolves. If you don’t evolve with is your career will die. Like many artist say, “If you don’t change it up, why would fans pay for new music? When they have the same stuff at home?” The lyrics and tone of the entire album are really dull. I’m glad I listened to it on a streaming service instead of buying it on vinyl.

I can’t name a good song on this album. About halfway you will want to turn it off. Unless you’re a die hard like I am. I remember hanging out with my best friend drinking and listening to Alkaline Trio. They were fun times. All their early stuff has a lot of great lyrics that have a meaning. Anyone can interpret them in many ways and that’s what made them a great listen. They are not meant for pop like, how this album came across. I honestly think it’s time for The Alkaline Trio to go their separate ways and focus on solo stuff and enhance their career that way.

Overall rating 1.5/5 stars.
