Grizzy Hendrix Brings Hope To Hip Hop

Underground Rap Artist Grizzy Hendrix Is The MC We Need

Written By: Sid Jones

Grizzy Hendrix has been stirring controversy within recent years. This artist has been put into two extremes; people either love him or hate him. Either way, you can’t ignore him. Grizzy has proven to have the talent and the rhyming scheme to match. He has reached far beyond YouTube. The quality of his music, the production has brought him into the underground scene. The question then becomes, why is he the artist the world needs?

In a recent article, we talked about changing the spectrum of Hip-Hop and growing with the times. We also mentioned the development and evolution necessary to make an impact. This also brings us to the point of socioeconomics. The internet has become a huge factor. Mainly, social media. When you look through your feed, you’ll find a new “thing” that has caused someone, somewhere to be “triggered.” Subjects and topics that were borderline offensive in the 80s and 90s aren’t so controversial anymore. We are in a generation where people are looking to be offended.

Enter Grizzy Hendrix. Most recently, his video Dear XXL/I Thought About Killing Myself. You can break the video and subject matter and understand the cleverness. Here at RoxxxTV, we have done just that. This is what we noticed. First, the song is similar to that of Eminem’s song Stan. Think back to when The Marshall Mathers LP was all over the media. The tracks on the album made Eminem a mainstream success. The Real Slim Shady being at the top of the list. Grizzy has taken that message and turned into a hate letter for modern music. It can also be said to be a hate letter to the fans of mainstream music.

It’s easy to see why people claim that Hendrix’s main target is Marshall. Who Killed Shady? would be an obvious reason. When you look beyond the title and listen to the song, there’s a definitive message. The music Eminem puts out is much less controversial. The song is Grizzy simply making the observation. This is far different from a “diss” track. This has been overlooked by many. However, the rest of his discography is a precursor. To truly understand Grizzy’s mentality you have to look at his previous works.

The one that comes to mind is Black Man/White Privilege. The title alone would make stomachs turn. For obvious reason. It has become a hot subject that no one wants to discuss. Grizzy addressed it without skipping a beat. He didn’t even clear his throat. Take a moment to notice a pattern when listening to his other tracks as well. It’s not just social politics, but politics in general. Nothing is hands off. Everyone here at RoxxxTV have recognized his talents and his message. Grizzy Hendrix, we thank you and salute you for all that you do.
